Monica Wartenberg

Monica Wartenberg is a Canadian artist/painter who lives and works in
Hamilton, Ontario. She paints primarily with acrylic, watercolours and
gouache. Monica has recently become involved with the Hamilton Art
Crawl on James Street North and welcomes opportunities to exhibit her
work in unconventional venues in addition to galleries. She also
creates beadwork jewellery, and is in the process of expanding her
repertoire to include up-cycled and re-worked apparel.

Artist Statement
My primary subject matter tends to be pattern and color. I get a great
deal of inspiration from textiles and stained glass. I also create a
number of representational works which I consider to be stylistically
interpreted rather than being realistically rendered. Most of my work
is very colourful and I enjoy the results of color placement. I do
however occasionally pursue the beatific simplicity of a monochromatic
palette and a simple lone subject. Often my ideas arise as a coherent
visual concept while I am working on or doing something that could be
considered very different from the art process. I am inspired by the
natural world, industry, music and ordered chaos, however it may
present itself.
